I was looking for that title
amidst a heap of old books
when suddenly those golden letters
glistened in the dark.
Switching on the light,
I felt the hard bound spine
ripping at the center
opening up to the folds
of an overused page.
Therein lay the frail veined carcass
of this perfect autumnal leaf.
Holding the framework of a fuller past,
it was fragmented with slashes of symmetry
with perforations as frail as
a spider's web.
Outlining the remnants, I drifted
back to the Fall of 2006
when I had moved to the United States
to pursue the passions of a geek.
September unraveled to a newcomer
like a bag of skittles.
With a promise of change,
of happiness, of love.
A motley of rust, yellow,
green, brown and red.
A crispy nip in relationships,
that would make me sing songs
and dance around trees.
I lifted that fossilized leaf
and held it against the sky
to sieve out stars.
Appreciating the current summer
thanks to that year's Fall.

Love the memory you weave into the symmetry of that perfect leaf. Thing die and things live on, but memories is the path connecting what's alive and what is dead.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said. It's amazing how some remnants serve as a conduit between the past and what lies ahead.

DeleteSuch a fragile remnant of the past… I imagine it disintegrated - and you blew away the pieces. Which is the way it is supposed to be. :)
ReplyDeleteFragile indeed, cause if we clutch on to it too hard, we may not be able to move forward. Thanks for visiting :)

I do agree with all the ideas you have introduced for your post.
ReplyDeleteThey're really convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too quick for newbies.
Could you please prolong them a little from subsequent time?

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this,
ReplyDeletelike you wrote the book in it or something. I think that
you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a
